EU Considers Releasing Blocked Funds, Retail Sales On Tap

  • Bloomberg circulated a source piece noting that the EU might release EUR6.3bn in post-pandemic aid to Poland as soon as next week as a goodwill gesture towards the new government and its plan to address rule-of-law concerns. The piece noted that a final decision was yet to be made, with officials still working on the details.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a special address to the nation, in which he said that he instructed his "entire government" to travel to the border in the coming days for a meeting with their Polish counterparts to defuse tensions over grain exports. He called on Prime Minister Donald Tusk to attend.
  • Statistics Poland will release January retail sales data at 09:00GMT/11:00CET. They may have increased 3.4% Y/Y at the beginning of the year after a 0.5% uptick registered in December.
  • The NBP will publish January money supply data at 13:00GMT/14:00CET.
