EU Gas Demand 19.8% Below Average in Feb: Bruegel Data

Gas demand in the EU and UK fell from 475TWh and 14.1% below the 2019 -2021 average in January to 359TWh and 19.8% below the average in Feb according to Bruegel. The monthly demand compares to 394.3TWh in Feb 2023 and 421.6TWh in Feb 2022.

  • The European Union target to reduce gas demand by 15% compared to the previous five-year is currently in place until March 2025.
  • The EU has set a (REPowerEU) plan of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% in 2030 compared to levels in 1990 with a path to reduce gas demand to 1,615TWh by 2030. So far, the EU is on track for meeting the ambitious REPowerEU targets.
