EU Gas Storage Withdrawals Remain Well Below Normal

European gas storage levels have edged very slightly lower over last week to 83.05% compared to a five year average of 66.6% according to the latest GIE data for 8 Jan.

  • Germany has however continued to slowly increase with above normal temperatures keeping heating demand well below normal. German gas in store has increased from 214.88TWh on 19 Dec up to 224.37TWh on 8 Jan.
  • European gas stores would normally be expected to decline at this time of year with the five year average withdrawal rate of approximately 6.6TWh or a 0.6% decline per day.
  • The countries with the largest gas in store volumes are Germany at 224.37TWh (91.2% full), Italy at 157.63Wh (81.48%), France at 110.08TWh (82.4%) and Netherlands at 106.55Wh (76.69%).
