Extra Gas Demand of 30bcm/yr or More from Data Centres/AI by 2030

Feedgas requirement for the forthcoming LNG wave and a gas demand surge from data centres/AI and crypto mining on the margin were a focus of US earnings calls, according to IEA analyst Greg Molnar.
- More rapid electricity demand growth is expected driven by data centres and AI with stable supply required providing additional upside for gas burn.
- Projections suggest additional demand in North America from data centres/AI of 30bcm/yr by 2030 up to as much as over 130bcm/yr.
- Data centres/AI and crypto is also likely to have an impact on other gas-rich markets. Iran is already regularly facing grid stability issues due to high crypto mining.
