EZ Flash Inflation Ticked Up in Jul

EZ JUL FLASH HICP -0.1% M/M; +2.2% Y/Y; JUN +1.9% Y/Y

EZ JUL FLASH CORE HICP -0.4% M/M; +0.7% Y/Y; JUN +0.9% Y/Y

EZ inflation rose to 2.2% in Jul, coming in stronger than market expectations (BBG: +2.0%).

On the other hand, core inflation edged down to 0.7% in Jul, showing the second successive deceleration.

Jul's uptick was led by a faster increase of energy inflation at 14.1%, up from 12.6%, and of food inflation which accelerated to 1.6% after recording 0.5% in Jun.

On the other hand, prices for non-energy industrial goods slowed to 0.7%, while service inflation accelerated to 0.9%, marking a two-month high.

Among the member states, Estonia (4.9%), Lithuania (4.3%) and Luxembourg (3.3%) recorded the largest rates, while Malta (+0.4%), Greece (+0.6%) and Italy (+0.9%) posted the lowest inflation rates.
