Finance Minister Speaks, S&P Revise Outlook To Negative

  • Finance Minister Mario Marcel is scheduled to speak at a university event at 1.30pm local time. USDCLP is opening 0.3% higher, broadly in line with peers but also possibly reflecting S&P revising Chile’s outlook to negative.
  • While the ratings agency affirmed Chile's long-term foreign currency debt rating at A, they noted that their “negative outlook captures the risks stemming from weakening political consensus on the key parameters of Chile's political and economic agenda''.
  • Swap rates at the front end and in the belly of the Camara curve have risen sharply over the past two sessions following the central banks comments on the weakening peso and markets assuming a more shallow easing cycle. 2-year swap rates rose as much as 15bps on Thursday.
