Floating Storage Vessel On Route to Congo LNG Project

LNG

The Excalibur vessel has set sail to west Africa, where it will be used as a floating storage unit for Eni’s 0.6mtpa Congo LNG project that is scheduled to start operations this year, according to ICIS.

  • The vessel is signaling arrival around 26 November.
  • The first stage of the project will send gas from an onshore gas processing plant to a near-offshore floating LNG production unit, the Tango FLNG unit. From there the LNG will be sent to the Excalibur for storage. Other tankers will then load cargoes from the Excalibur for export.
  • Eni plans a second stage to be operational in 2025, adding a second FLNG unit, a 2.4mtpa plant further offshore.
  • The Republic of Congo’s Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons said last month, the country is planning to begin LNG exports in December. Eni is planning to ship the LNG to Europe, the firm said in April.
