Fmr Speaker McCarthy-'Can't Do Anything On Israel w/o Electing Speaker'

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is speaking to reporters in D.C., ostensibly regarding the Hamas attacks on Israel but also on the upcoming contest to succeed him in the House of Representatives. Claims that "We cannot do anything without electing a Speaker", referring to the limited powers possessed by Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry (R-NC). Claims that without an elected speaker the House cannot consider legislation in the normal fashion, which would include a resolution to support Israel.

• McCarthy: “It’s not just the replenishment of the Iron Dome, we want to make sure we destroy Hamas, we kill Hamas.”
• Asked about whether he will endorse GOP frontrunners majority leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) or Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) states that "I'll let the conference see who unites them." Similarly, asked if he would be open to being reinstated says it is for GOP reps to decide.
• Jake Sherman at Punchbowl: "McCarthy inches closer to saying he wants to be speaker. He says 96% of the conference supports him. And the rest of the conference is being held back by a handful of those opposing him."
