Fox-MBS: Oil Prod. Cut Based On Market Stability, Not To Help Russia

Speaking to Fox Newsovernight, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman stated that OPEC+ oil production cuts were based on market stability and not intedned to assist Russia amid the economic consqeuences of its invasion of Ukraine. MbS: “We just watch supply, demand. If there is shortage of supply our role in OPEC+ is to fill that shortage. If there is oversupply our role of OPEC+ is to measure that for the stability of the market,”

  • When asked about a deal that would normalise relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel MbS states that "Every day we get closer". MbS pressed the importance of concessions from Israel regarding Palestine, "For us, the Palestinian issue is very important. We need to solve that part, [...] We hope that will reach a place that will ease the life of the Palestinians and get Israel as a player in the Middle East,"
  • Regarding the prospect of Iran gaining access to nuclear weapons, MbS warned against saying that "That's a bad move, if you use it, you got to have a big fight with the rest of the world. [...] If they get one, we have to get one, for security reasons and the balance of power in the Middle East."
  • A mooted defence pact with the US could smooth Israel normalisation. On this, MbS said that a pact would “...save effort and headache from the Saudi side [...] We have a lot of security, military ties that really is strengthening the position of Saudi Arabia, the Middle East and strengthening the position of America globally, especially in Middle East. You don’t want that to be shifted.
