Fox's Pergram- Gov't "Cruising Towards Sunday Shutdown"

US

Fox News' Chad Pergramposts on X regarding the state of play re: a gov't shutdown. "[...] The House attempts today to pass a one-month interim bill which increases border security. This will be a test to see if there are truly a handful of House GOPers who would never vote for an interim bill. It’s unclear if that bill can pass."

  • "It’s also possible the “rule” which establishes the terms of debate on the floor for the Band-Aid bill may fail. That would prevent the interim bill from coming to the floor. That means they are in gridlock and a shutdown is very likely. At that stage, the House will have expired any possible legislative traffic for the time being."
  • "The Senate has a six-week funding bill which can pass with three-quarters of all members supporting it. But Senate conservatives are slowing the process because it includes money for Ukraine."
  • "That means the final procedural vote to break a filibuster doesn’t come until Saturday. And passage is delayed until Sunday - AFTER the deadline. [...] So, we’re at an impasse and likely cruising toward a Sunday shutdown unless something changes."
