The national organisation representing French fishermen has stated that from 1400CET (1300GMT) tomorrow, their fleets will engage in protest action at St Malo port in Brittany and at the Eurotunnel to rail against the UK's actions in not providing enough fishing licenses to French ships.

  • The body has stated that "We are determined to guarantee that our post-Brexit fishing licence rights are protected and that the post-Brexit arrangement is adhered to."
  • Calls on the EU to intervene in the fishing dispute. Says that "The EU must reclaim the confidence of its fishermen. It is for the EU to set the pace with the UK, not the other way around."
  • Alongside the Northern Ireland protocol, the issue of fisheries remains one of the major hindrances to improving EU-UK relations. Also important in the contect of small boats migrant crisis in the English Channel at present. UK seeking more French cooperation on the issue, but fisheries row harming Franco-British relations.
