French Nuclear Reactor Availability Falls On Strike Action

French nuclear reactor availability falls on Thursday as a 24-hour strike action against the country’s pension reforms is underway, EdF remit data show.

  • Around 5.3GW of French nuclear reactor availability are affected by the strike, forcing reactors offline, curtailing output or delaying restarts.
  • Reactors affected by the national strike action are: Belleville 1 and 2, Chinon 3, Dampierre 4, Gravelines 3 and 5, Paluel 2,3 and 4.
  • The French day-ahead base-load index on the Epex Spot settled at $184.69/MWh for 19 Jan delivery, at a wide premium to most of its neighbouring markets.
  • Power demand is forecast to rise to up 77GW on Thursday, RTE data show.
