Fresh Highs In USD/JPY Through 160.00, A$ & NZD Outperforming

FOREX

The last part of G10 trading has seen a more risk on feel emerge, albeit with noticeable yen volatility. USD/JPY has pushed to fresh highs, last 159.30/40, off recent session highs (160.17). AUD and NZD are outperforming the rest of the G10 at the margins (both up around 0.35-0.40%).

  • A reminder that Japan markets are closed today, which is likely impacting yen liquidity. Earlier lows in USD/JPY were at 157.83. We saw a brief spike above 160.00, but sit lower now, still 0.60% weaker in yen terms.
  • The cross asset tone is supportive from an equity market standpoint. US futures have held earlier gains, Eminis last a touch above +0.2% for the session. Most regional markets are also tracking higher. US Tsy futures are off earlier highs, likely weighing on yen at the margins.
  • AUD/USD was last 0.6560, close to highs from last Friday. NZD/USD is near 0.5960.
