Futures Firm On Unchanged Rinban Plan, Tankan Due

JGBS

JGB futures firmed overnight, adding 14 ticks as the contract drew support from the lack of tweaks observed within the BoJ's Q4 Rinban plan (there was some speculation that the BoJ could have trimmed its purchases out to 10s).

  • There wasn't any real reaction in futures when it came to the late NY rally in U.S. Tsys, we will see if that filters through after the Tokyo re-open.
  • In terms of the local political situation, press reports have suggested that former Olympics Minister Shunichi Suzuki will be appointed Finance Minister under a Kishida-led government.
  • The monthly labour market report and quarterly Tankan survey headline the domestic docket on Friday. Economists do not look for much in the way of movement when it comes to the major figures within the survey.
  • The BoJ will also release the summary of opinions covering its most recent monetary policy meeting, although this release is seen as a non-event.
