Gazprom Siberian Gas Field Set for Developing Eastern Flows

Gazprom has started to produce gas at the Kovykta field in the Irkutsk field which is sending gas down the Kovykta-Chayanda section of the Power of Siberia pipeline.

  • The development of the Power of Siberia pipeline is central to Russia’s plans to start sending gas towards China as it pivots away from western bound flows this year, delivering a huge blow to Gazprom's production.
  • Russian President Vladimir Putin gave the order to launch production at the field.
  • "A new Irkutsk gas production center has appeared on the Russian map. We are launching the unique Kovykta gas condensate field, the biggest in Eastern Siberia." Putin said.
  • The field is the biggest in Eastern Russia and is unique in terms of its recoverable reserves at 1.8 trillion cubic meters of gas and 65.7 million tonnes of gas condensate.
