German Spox: We Are Prepared To Return To Talks Despite Uranium Enrichment

IRAN

Reuters reporting that a German foreign ministry spokesman has stated that the country's gov't is willing to return to talks on the Iranian nuclear deal despite Tehran's deal-breaching enrichment of uranium metal (which can be used to create the core of nuclear weapons).

  • The International Atomic Energy Agency announced on Tuesday that Iran had given notice of its enrichment of uranium to 20%, well in breach of the levels allowed under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA).
  • The E3 signatories of the JCPoA (France, Germany, the UK) immediately condemned the move, issuing a joint statement on the matter stating that "Iran has no credible civilian need for uranium metal R&D and production, which are a key step in the development of a nuclear weapon...With its latest steps, Iran is threatening a successful outcome to the Vienna talks despite the progress achieved in six rounds of negotiations,"
