Germany Introduces Gas And Power Price Cap For Households, Firms

Germany will introduce a cap on gas and electricity prices for companies and households from 1 March, according to government officials.

  • Private households’ gas prices will be capped at €0.12/KWh for 80% of consumption.
  • For industrial consumers, 70% of gas consumption will be subsidised.
  • Electricity prices will be capped at €0.40/KWh.
  • The subsidies will be paid retroactively for January and February, while gas consumers will receive a one-time payment in December.
  • The package of measures will cost the government around €54bn, partly financed by a windfall tax on power profits.
