Germany's Uniper Drawing Gas from Storage

Germany’s Uniper has been drawing gas from its storage this week as Nord Stream 1 pipeline flows have stopped for maintenance June 11-21.

  • "Since the beginning of the week, we have been taking gas from the capacities we use ourselves," Germany’s focus magazine quoted a Uniper spokesperson as saying.
  • Uniper is in discussions for a bail out after struggling to cope with the high price gas markets without being able to fully pass on costs to end consumers.
  • Germany’s gas storage being drawn in summer is a cause for concern regarding Europe’s ability to reach 80% storage ahead of next winter to try and avert rationing, if Russia reduces or turns off gas flows.
