Germany Significantly Misses Gas Demand Reduction Target

Germany natural gas consumption last week stood 5.2% below the four-year average, while the country's energy regulator set a reduction target of 20%, according to Bnetza data.

  • Germany’s gas consumption in calendar week 49 was 5.2% below the four-year average and rose 11.7% week on week.
  • Temperatures well below the seasonal norm and higher industrial gas consumption has supported demand. Last week’s industrial gas consumption rose to a daily average of 1.91TWh, the highest level since early March.
  • Germany’s gas storage capacity stood at 91.26% and daily withdrawals hit the highest level on 13 Dec since the start of storage withdrawal season.
