Germany’s LNG Terminal Costs Exceed Budget

The purchase and maintenance of Germany’s LNG terminals are expected to exceed the country’s budget by over €3bn, the economy ministry said.

  • Costs were estimated at about €6.56bn, compared with €2.94bn estimated in the country’s 2022 budget.
  • The parliamentary budget committee has already approved additional money required to diversify gas supplies away from Russia.
  • Last week, Bnetza set out regulatory guidelines for LNG terminals to ensure the country’s security of supply.
  • The new FLNG Terminal Wilhelmshaven has been inaugurated last week and the terminal is expected to be operational from January 2023.
  • Germany’s planned Brunsbuettel FLNG terminal is also expected to deliver gas from end of 2022 or early in 2023, latest information show.
  • The planned Stade and Lubmin terminals are scheduled to be operational end 2023.
