Global Airline Passenger Capacity Falls 0.19% on Week: OAG

Global airline passenger capacity is set to fall to 113.08m seats in the seven days commencing May 13, OAG said. This is a drop of 0.19% on the week,

  • The decline continuous to go against previous expectations: last week’s forward schedule forecast a rise of 0.81% to 114.21m seats.
  • More tepid domestic capacity remains the main driver of the underperformance in total capacity. Domestic capacity is lagging forecasts this week by 1.02m seats.
  • Domestic capacity is down 0.43% on the week to 66.55m seats, while international capacity is up on the week by 0.16% to 46.53m seats.
  • Looking at whole-month May, total capacity is expected to be up 7% on the year to 507.24m seats.
  • The largest growth area is Europe, up 8.7m seats on the year as it approaches peak summer travel.
  • North Asia is also seeing strong growth, adding a further 7m additional seats on the year.
