Global COVID-19 Tracker – October 14

COVID-19 Trends and Developments

  • We have updated our COVID-19 data table to include clearer indications of the trend of the virus in the selected countries. The 'New Cases in Past 24 Hours' section is now colour coded to show whether the latest figures show an increase or a decrease in cases on the number from the previous day. In the 'Fatalities in Past 24 Hours' and 'Yesterday's New Cases Minus Seven-Day Average' sections the colour coding indicates whether the figures are in excess of, below, or equal to the seven-day average of new cases or fatalities.
  • Average daily caseload increase in France across the past week stood at 17,503 new cases per day on October 13, the highest on record. The escalation in new cases over the past month in France is now coinciding with a rise in the number of COVID-19 related fatalities. The country averaged 86 fatalities from the virus per day over the last week, the highest seven-day average since May 23. President Macron is due to deliver a televised address to the nation this evening at around 2000CET (1900BST, 1400ET) to outline the state of COVID-19 in the country and the measures the government is taking to combat its spread.
  • The average daily increase in COVID-19 cases in the United States stood at 51,038 per day across the past week as of October 13. This is the highest seven-day average since August 16, and comes as the weekly average of fatalities from COVID-19 remains above 700 per day for the seventh day in a row.
