Global LNG Exports Up 6% yr/yr in Q1 2023

Global LNG exports in Q1 2023 were 104.3m tonnes up 6% or 5.8m tonnes on the previous year according to ICIS.

  • The US was the biggest exporter at 21.1m tonnes just ahead of Australia at 20.5m tonnes and Qatar at 20.5m tonnes. The US is expected the be the biggest exporter in the whole of 2023.
  • The US was assisted by the return of Freeport with 13 cargoes loaded in March although not yet back to maximum capacity of 15.0mtpa.
  • Russia was the fourth largest exporter at 8.1m tonnes compared to 8.4m in Q1 2022.
