Global Oil Demand Boosted by Record Diesel & Gasoline Sales in India

OIL

Sales of diesel and gasoline in India surged to record levels in May in a boost to global demand as the Indian economy beat expectations to expand by 6.1% in Q1 2023. Consumption in May was higher-than-estimated and there’s some upside potential given the outperformance according to Standard Chartered.

  • Growth is however expected to slow through the rest of this year.
  • The increased consumption is a boost to state-run fuel retailers with diesel and gasoline prices unchanged since April last year.
