Global Weekly LNG Imports Fell 6% Last Week

Global weekly LNG imports last week stood at 7.2mn tons for 16-22 October, down by 6% week on week, driven by a decline in volumes to China according to BNEF.

  • China’s LNG imports last week stood at 1.11mn tons, down by 0.35mn tons on the week.
  • Overall imports into JKCT fell by 0.41mn tons last week to 3.56mn tons. Japanese LNG imports were almost stable on the week at 1.28mn tons.
  • Imports into Northwest Europe and Italy rose by 0.14mn tons on the week to 1.36mn tons, up by 37% year on year. Shipments to other Europe, including Spain, edged lower to 0.80mn tons, compared with 0.84mn tons the week prior.
  • Weekly LNG exports declined by 3% on the week to 7.6mn tons. Exports from Qatar fell by 0.22mn tons to 1.21mn tons. In the US, the Cove Point plant shipped its first cargo last week after completing maintenance. Overall US shipments were stable on the week at 1.81mn tons.
  • Egypt saw now LNG exports last week.
