Gov't Expected To Set Income Threshold For Loan Moratoriums At Very High Level

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki yesterday confirmed that the decision on whether to extend the so-called mortgage holidays could be taken early next month, and if it is approved, he would recommend the implementation of an income criterion to determine continued eligibility for the scheme. Interia reports today that this income threshold could be set at a "very high" level, keeping around 95% of borrowers eligible for mortgage moratoriums.

  • According to the news outlet, mortgage holidays could be extended by 2 quarters, even as the NBP is expected to cut interest rates in the coming months, while real wages are expected to grow. The forward-looking WIBOR, which is commonly used as a benchmark for new mortgages, has already started falling in anticipation of imminent monetary loosening.
