Gov't Reduces Bond Issuance, Pirates Overtake ODS In New Opinion Poll

CZECHIA
  • The government said that it was planning to reduce bond issuance in March to CZK19bn from CZK22bn in February. This comes amid expectations of a faster rate-cutting cycle as Czechia's inflation eased sharply into the tolerance band around the +2.0% target. On the other hand, CNB's Zamrazilova continued to pour cold water on aggressive dovish rate-cut pricing yesterday, noting that she would prefer a "moderate" pace of cuts and flagging risks from exchange rate developments.
  • A new Median opinion poll showed that ANO (31.5%) remained a clear front-runner to win the next parliamentary election, despite losing 3pp from the previous survey. The Pirates became the second strongest party (13%), overtaking Prime Minister Petr Fiala's ODS (12%).
  • Defence Minister Jana Cernochova and Chief of General Staff Karel Rehka are holding a press briefing on military aid to Ukraine. President Petr Pavel recently said that Czechia has sourced ammunition abroad, which could be transferred to Ukraine if other countries help fund the operation.
  • Labour Minister Marian Jurecka will speak with Seznam Zpravy later in the day after he managed to stay on as leader of his party and will lead it to the upcoming election marathon.
