Gov't To Launch Cash Handouts For Children, Add Points To My Number Cards

The Yomiuri Shimbun reports that Japan's government and ruling party decided yesterday to including a cash handout scheme in their large-scale fiscal package to be announced on November 19.

  • Cash handouts of Y100,000 will be distributed to children under the age of 18, without any income criteria.
  • The government will also add the equivalent of Y30,000 in points to "My Number" cards of all citizens who hold them.
  • The budget for cash handouts for children is estimated at around Y2tn and the programme will be implemented by next spring.
  • Adding points to "My Number" cards will cost around Y3tn.
