Gove Talks Down Further EU-UK Discussion As Barnier Offers Intensified Talks

Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove speaking in the Commons says that trade negotiations with the EU are in effect ended, and that future talks without a change in stance from the EU "are meaningless and would not bring the two sides closer to a solution."

  • Says there is "no basis to find an agreement".
  • Says if "EU wants to change the situation it must have a fundamental change in approach".
  • It seems that most of these comments are the same those given by PM Johnson last Friday.
  • As such, they may not take into account the Joint Committee meeting earlier today and today's phone call between negotiators Barnier and Frost.
