Government Posts 6.2% Budget Shortfall in 2022

  • Hungary government posted a budget shortfall of 6.2% of GDP last year, compared to 7.1% in 2021, the statistics office reported this morning. The government originally targeted 4.9% of GDP before boosting it to 6.1% in September.
  • Economic cooperation is currently the strongest pillar of Hungarian-US relations, and Hungary is counting on US companies to bolster ties between the two countries, Peter Szijjarto said on Monday.
  • However, Prime Minister Victor Orban sent a message of support for former President Donald Trump in a Tweet yesterday, underscoring his pro-Republican leanings and uneasy relations with the Biden administration.
  • Budapest will host an energy conference focused on the role of hydrogen today, which will be attended by state officials and industry leaders.
