Government to Present Judicial Changes to EU on January 24

  • Justice Minister Judit Varga said she’ll present the government’s proposed judicial changes to the European Union’s executive next week (Jan. 24), part of an effort to unlock $30 billion in frozen funding from the bloc.
  • For reference, Hungary has pledged to implement legal changes to bolster judicial independence by the end of March, a key commitment to access €5.8 billion ($6.3 billion) in Covid-recovery grants as well as to tap €22 billion of EU cohesion funding. (Bloomberg)
