Greek Tankers Moving Away from Russian Oil Trade

OIL

Greek shipowners are moving away from Russian crude movements according to Bloomberg vessel tracking.

  • Greek tankers moving Russian fuel fell to eight in January, down from a 2023 peak of 40 in May.
  • Greater scrutiny of the $60/bbl G7 price cap has prompted the fall, while attacks in the Red Sea have also caused numbers to dip. Despite assurances from the Houthi’s that Russia and China vessels would be safe, a Russian cargo was struck in recent weeks.
  • According to Argus figures, ESPO traded at prices about $13/bbl above the price cap in the first four weeks of 2024. Urals loaded at terminals in the Baltic was about $1/bbl over the cap.
