Higher Despite Weak Headline Jobs Figures

After an initial spike lower following the data AUD/USD is making progress higher, last up 12 pips at 0.7740.

  • The report showed employment fell 30.6k in April against expectations of a 20.0k gain. The economy gained 33.8k full time jobs, while losing 64.4k part time jobs. The participation rate fell 0.3ppts to 66.0% which saw the unemployment rate fall to 5.5% from a revised 5.7%.
