Highway Landing Drills Delayed Due To COVID, Threat To Live-Fire Drills

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense has announced that its annual highway landing drills for its airforce have been delayed to September due to the escalating COVID-19 outbreak on the island.

  • The ministry has also stated that the live fire drills, the Han Kuang exercises, seen as an important part of securing the readiness of Taiwanese forces, are also at risk of suspension to the the outbreak.
  • The US has already stated that it will for the second successive year not take part in the exercises due to the pandemic, despite rising concern in Washington, D.C about potential Chinese military activity in the region.
