Household Net Worth Climbed By Most In A Year In Q1

US DATA
  • US household net worth climbed in Q1 by the most in over a year as a gain in the value of equity holdings offset a decline in real estate.
  • Household net worth rose $3T to $148.8T.
  • The value of equity holdings increased about $2.4T in Q1, while the value of real estate held by households fell $617B although the latter was the smallest decline since 2Q22.
  • The further large gains in net worth help explain the continued difficulty in attracting the 55+ age cohort back to the labor market and instead favoring early retirement, with the participation rate almost 2%pts below pre-pandemic levels.
