Hungary Blocks EU Joint Statement on Putin International Arrest Warrant

  • EURHUF continues to trade on the backfoot today after price action yesterday saw the forint swing from the worst to best performing CEEMEA currency. The cross has traded below the 392.00 level in recent trade, with initial firm support found at 387.81, the 20-day EMA.
  • Hungary blocked EU member states from issuing a joint statement about an international arrest warrant against Russian President Putin, Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter. The Hungarian Foreign Ministry called the report of a veto a “lie.” On Monday, justice ministers from 26 EU countries issued their own statement supporting the ICC decision, which Hungary did not sign.
  • Hungary is not willing to send ammunition to Ukraine, though it will not stop other EU countries from doing so, Foreign Minister Szijjarto said in Brussels yesterday.
  • There are no major economic releases or speakers events on the docket today.
