Hungary To Maintain Druzhba Oil Imports: TASS

OIL

Hungary has no plans to reduce imports of Russian oil via the Druzhba pipeline, despite Ukraine hiking transit tariffs, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said according to Interfax.

  • "We have no such intentions. We always prefer diversification, but we need a solid foundation. And it can only come from Russia, this is a physical fact," TASS reported Szijjarto saying.
  • "Since the pipe runs through the territory of Ukraine, we are dependent on their decisions. We hope that there will be no more decisions on further hikes," he added regarding Ukrainian tariffs.
  • Szijjarto also said that Hungary expects to receive around 4m mt of oil from Russia via the Druzhba pipeline by the end of 2023.
  • Tariffs for transit via Ukraine have risen twice since June, a 25% rise from June 1 and a 23.5% rise from Aug. 1, according to TASS.
