India Gas Importers May Finalise Long-Term LNG Deals at Industry Event

India’s gas importers may look to finalise several major long-term LNG supply contracts during India Energy Week starting Feb. 5, according to Platts.

  • Several deals are in the final stages of negotiations, most notable are talks of renewing the existing agreement Petronet-QatarEnergy contract for 8.5m mtpa expiring in 2028.
  • GAIL recently announced a 10-year deal with Vitol for 1m mtpa starting 2026 pricing at a 12.4-12.45% oil slope. GAIL also signed a 0.5m mtpa deal with Adnoc from 2026.
  • There is expectation that India-UAE LNG ties could be extended with the conference used as a platform to expand the earlier deal, Platts said.
  • At present with deals already signed, around 40% of forecast demand will be uncontrolled by the end of the decade, according to Platts analysts.
  • India plans to raise its share of gas to 15% of the energy mix by 2030, compared to 6% in 2023.
