Indian Fuel Consumption Dips First Half of July

Indian diesel and gasoline sales have drifted lower in the first half of July versus the first half of June according to preliminary data.

  • Diesel saw consumption drop 13.7% during July 1-15 to 3.16 million tonnes from 3.67 million tonnes of demand in the same period of the previous month.
  • Gasoline sales fell 7.8% to 1.27 million tonnes in the first half of July when compared to 1.38 million tonnes of consumption in the same period of June.
  • Jet fuel demand fell 6.7% to 247,800 tonnes July 1 to 15 compared to the same period in June.
  • Cooking gas LPG sales in the first half of July were up 8.3% to 1.24 million tonnes versus the same period in June.
  • Indian oil retailers have cited monsoon rains as the main reason fuel sales have dipped this month as flood waters limit personal mobility.
