Iranian Gas Deal with Oman Revived

Iran’s oil minister has agreed to a project to install a pipeline to carry gas to Oman, Iranian news agency IRNA reported over the weekend.

  • Oman has been searching for gas opportunities to feed its own industries as well as for LNG ambitions.
  • The project has been touted for years but has failed to be developed. The two nations signed a deal in 2013 for a 25-year supply deal via the proposed pipeline which has run into problems, in part because of the planned pipeline route as well as cost and US pressure on Oman due to sanctions.
