Iraq's Karbala Refinery Starts Trial

REFINING

Iraq has started trial operations at its Karbala oil refinery it said in a statement over the weekend.

  • The refinery, located south of Baghdad, has a production capacity of 140,000 bpd.
  • Oil products produced by Karbala will cover local demand and will help reduce refined product imports by an estimated 60pc.
  • Karbala is Iraq's first new refinery in decades and was initially due on stream in 2018 but the project was beset by delays.
