Iraq to End Oil Product Imports Mid 2025 Amid Refinery Reopening

OIL PRODUCTS

Iraq is planning to stop oil product imports from mid-2025 after it has reopened the Al-Shamal refinery within the Baiji refining compound in northern Iraq after a 10-year halt, according to the office of the Iraqi PM, cited by Bloomberg.

  • Operations at Al-Shamal will resume at a capacity of 150k b/d.
  • This will take the combined output at the Baiji to 290k b/d across the Salahuddin 1 and 2 and Al-Shamal refineries, Bloomberg said.
  • Its maximum capacity is 310k b/d, according to Shafaq news outlet.
  • The refinery had halted operations in 2014 due to clashes between Iraqi forces and ISIS militants.
