ISM Prices Suggest Inflation To Remain Elevated

US OUTLOOK/OPINION

While Y/Y inflation may have peaked, incoming data continues to suggest that price pressures remain persistent.

  • Data released today showed a new cycle high for the ISM Services prices subcomponent (82.9) in October, just 0.6 off the 2005 Hurricane Katrina-related all-time high, which suggests that high inflation will persist into 2022.
  • An 80/20 weighted services/manufacturing PMI lagged 3 months points to 4.5-5.0% Y/Y CPI in January, 0.5-1.0pp below current levels, but still extremely elevated on a historic basis.
