CHINA: It is irresponsible for the U.S to initiate an investigation of China's
intellectual property policies, applying only domestic rules under Section 301
of the U.S. Trade Act of 1974 and ignoring World Trade Organization rules,
according to a statement posted on the Ministry of Commerce's website Monday.
The accusations against Chinese intellectual property policies are not
objective, the statement said. China expresses its strong discontent with the
unilateralist and protectionist behavior of the United States, the Ministry
said. The investigation has sent the wrong signal to the world and will be
opposed by international society, including representatives of U.S. industry.
The U.S. should work with China to push forward their bilateral one-year trade
improvement plan at a steady pace in a bid to maintain a healthy and stable
bilateral trade relationship, the Ministry said. "We hope the U.S. will respect
both the strong willingness to cooperate between the two sides and international
trade rules, and so act prudently," the ministry said, adding, "China will pay
close attention to the investigation and adopt all proper measures to safeguard
the legal rights of China."
