Jan Industrial Production And BCRA Economic Expectations Survey Due

  • The government is due to begin technical meetings on tax and financial issues with the provinces today, with Economy Secretary Carlos Guberman meeting with his provincial counterparts. In the calendar, manufacturing and construction data for January 2024 will be published at 1900GMT (1400ET). Itaú note that latest coincident indicators suggest that both indexes contracted in January. The BCRA is also due to release its latest monthly survey of economic expectations after the market close.

  • President Milei said yesterday that CPI inflation is expected to be close to 15% m/m in February, adding that the disinflation process is strong. Consumer prices rose by 20.6% m/m in January. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Guillermo Francos said that the government plans to reintroduce a proposal that would boost the number of Argentines who pay income taxes at the request of provincial governors. He did not specify when the government would reintroduce the proposal. He also said that the government does not currently plan to reintroduce export tariffs, which were part of the original omnibus bill.
