January US Oil Production Highest Since March 2020: Monthly EIA Data

The monthly US oil demand data showed a small increase to 19.54mbpd in Jan 2023 from 19.49mbpd in Dec 22 and compared to 19.73mbpd in Jan 2022 according to the EIA released on Friday.

  • US crude production rose 2.9% from 12.115mbpd in December to 12.462mbpd in January to the highest since March 2020 and up from 11.37mbpd in Jan 2022. Output from New Mexico reach a record high at 1.792mbpd with Texas at a post pandemic high of 5.237mbpd.
  • Change in US oil demand y/y by product in kbpd:
    • Gasoline +300 to 8,282
    • Distillate +179 to 3902
    • Jet fuel +87 to 1,510
