DOLLAR-ASIA
DOLLAR-ASIA: Just looking at USD/Asia, interesting to note that most of the
purer regional risk proxies are +ve vs. the greenback in early 2020, despite the
geopolitical strains evident in the Middle East (although they have of course
de-escalated).
- THB has edged lower (with the Bank of Thailand fighting THB strength), JPY
also struggling, while back in G10 AUD & NZD have also been pressured after
their impressive end to 2019.
- A reminder that the USD was extremely week into year-end, owing to portfolio
related flows.
- This week's phase 1 Sino-U.S. trade deal signing and economic data dump out of
China will be key for sentiment in the region. Elsewhere, the BoK will issue its
first MonPol decision of 2020 on Friday.
