Key Appointments a Possible Prelude to a Cabinet Reshuffle?

SOUTH AFRICA
  • Interesting to note we've seen three key appointments for the UIF, Financial Regulator and National Health Insurance today, in what could be a prelude to Ramaphosa's rumoured Cabinet reshuffle.
  • This reshuffle is expected to be a big power move from Ramaphosa to reinforce his grip on power within the ANC over corruption accused Secretary General Magashule.
  • Magashule is expected to meet with Ramaphosa next week ahead of his deadline to step aside.
  • Ramaphosa may be laying the foundations for his Cabinet reshuffle with today's appointments, but wating for Magashule's step aside deadline before performing the big reshuffle and solidifying his grip on power.
  • Rumours also circulating that the Magashule-led RET faction will splinter from the ANC when Magashule has lost sufficient power.
  • Nevertheless, next week should be an interesting one for local politics.
