  • We will receive labour market data on Tuesday, with the HMRC payroll data providing an update for April employment and with the headline unemployment rate providing data for the three months to March. The RTI labour market data will be the best insight yet into how the labour market has taken the increase in national insurance rates (which have to be paid by both employers and employees).
  • On Wednesday we will receive inflation data. There has been an upside surprise to the Bloomberg consensus for each of the last six headline CPI prints (starting with the October 2021 print which was released in November).
  • Friday will then see both the GfK consumer confidence data as well as retail sales – giving an update on the state of the consumer.
  • Note that this will be the final print of CPI and GfK consumer confidence data ahead of the June MPC meeting with retail sales due to the day after the decision is announced and labour market data due the Tuesday of that week.
