Kremlin-US Involvement In Crimea Incident Will Have Consequences

Wires reporting comments from Kremlin spox Dmitri Peskov following the high-profile incidentin the Crimean city of Sevastopol, where the shooting down of long-range ATACMS missiles fired from Ukraine resulted in the deaths of a number of beachgoers on 23 June. Peskov says that the attacks on Crimea are 'barbaric', before claiming that 'We know perfectly well who was behind the ATACMS attack on Crimea - and it was not Ukraine', implying that the US carries the blame. Goes on to say 'The involvement of the US in fighting which leaves Russians dead cannot but have consequences.
- A demarche has been expressed by the Foreign Minsitry to the US ambassador in Moscow, formally escalating the situation and bringing the United States into the incident as an alleged official participant.
- Regarding an uptick in recent comments regarding Russia's nuclear doctrine (determining how and when nuclear weapons can/should be used), Peskov says that on these changes President Vladimir Putin has said that 'work is underway to bring it into line with current realities'.
